Stanton Moore SMDA – The Drop/Pick up Transition

Hello! and welcome back to the next lesson on mikedolbear.com from my Stanton Moore Drum Academy! These will give you an idea and a taster of what you can find over at SMDA.

This month I’m looking at how you transition from playing slower triplets (where you are playing each note) to faster tempos where you are letting the stick bounce. To do this you need to use a method where you drop the stick for the first note and pick it up for the last.

Of course this doesn’t just have to be for playing triplets – its the method you use for playing jazz ride and it can take you us to pretty stratospheric tempos if required.

So, this is just a method to help you play faster more comfortably. As with all exercises, start slowly!

I hope you enjoy it!

Stay funky,

Stanton
