I have been lookin for a easy way to record the band and after using the search function have narrowed it down to the zoom h2n, h4n or the q3hd. All in my price bracket but which would you chose

Will choosing the q3 video make te sound suffer over the h2 or h4

Please help before I go insane as I have never had any recording experience

Cheers

Q3HD. You can also use just the sound function if thats what you need. If you want more audio functionality then the H4 is probably better.

Another vote for the zoom H2. It's a great piece of kit. It will do more for your money than almost any other piece of kit you can buy.

I ended up paying a little extra and getting a Zoom H4N which is great i think so far, 2 full size xlr to power condenser mics and another 2 mic inputs with lots of settings that i have no idea what to do with lol

Looking forward to giving it a go

Tascam DR-05.
I've got one, worth a look.

I'd get the Q3HD...

I've got the Q3HD after I deliberated as much as you. The video is useful and the sound quality is good. Only downside is the battery life, but get a AC adapter and you're fine for indoors. When I bought mine, GAK had a deal with the free accessory pack - worth checking out.

+1 for H2. You should also be able to get H2n with its added features (eg the ability to recover data if power is lost)at a good price.

Apparently the q3HD has the same mics as the higher end H4n but the H4n is £80 more so i begs the question why is the one with video and the superior mics cheaper ?

Really fancy a h2n but for £20 more i can have the q3hd that does video if required, is there really going to be a huge sound difference if i can tur the camera function off

Samson didnt make it easy did they lol

I use a H2 and always use a power adapter?, you are never far from a plug socket in a band situation!
Just not worth the hassle of batteries IMO.

H2 is fantastic btw. I'm not sure about the other products but the H2 is dedicated to audio, has 4 selectable mics and handles very loud and quiet bands easily, the on board compressor is handy to. Not sure if any of these features are traded off on the other / video products though.

How do you find the battery life on the Q3HD, read alot of bad reviews based on 90 minutes from a good branded AA ?

Zoom Q3 HD. Audio quality is excellent, you'll be very impressed. Plus the added bonus of HD video with a choice of 1080p @ 30 fps and 720p @ 60fps which looks much smoother.

Another vote for the H2, I've had one for a couple of years now & record all my gigs & most rehearsals. Excellent tool, well worth the money...

The Zoom H2 is excellent for recording practice sessions. Not used the others you mention.
