You'd love my Yamaha 9000, Progster, 20x16" 8" 10" 12" 14". Black lacquer, inside and out, a timeless classic, records beautifully, took me over 25 years to get one in these sizes. I paid £700 for it. But I also know you would insist on a 14" Floor tom. |

One of my Gretsch shell packs is going 'Bay wise next month.
New Classic 20, 10, 12, 14 Ft. 20 is a great size. I'm fed up of the super deep Bass drums.
I can discern no sonic advantage if you tune em properly and use decent heads. 18 & 20" deep are a pain for me and I suspect most carry-your-own-gear drummists.
New classics are ace. |

Have you thought about the Gretsch Caralina's Prog? I have this kit in the red sparkle and it looks really good on stage, the bass drum is 18" and sounds mint, i don't know how deep the 20" bass drum is but you could enquire eh, they really are a great kit for the money, in fact, i bought a double tom holder and iv'e added a 10" Tom to the kit,,

I've just measured it and actually it's 16" (assuming you measure from bearing edge to edge - odd that I've never measured the depth of a drum!) |

I'd echo what Nicola says the orig stage custom with the full Ht lug is a cracking kit for not much dosh, if you drop lucky you could get a three piece shell pack for £150 ish, not sure if the 20 bd is 14 deep though.
My "business" partner/drum teacher claimed your old one. In theory we own it half each but after his "I might gig the blue Yammy" tonight declaration over 2 years ago I've never seen it since. He's still gigging it now. Absolutely adores it. Mine is a natural wood one with a 20" bass drum (which I think is 18" deep, it's certainly not 14") which suits my shorter stature a bit better. I've played a few Yamaha stage customs now and never found a bad one - the toms absolutely sing and the bass drum never disappoints. |

If it's a decent, modernish workhorse you're after, I'd recommend an M Birch.
I used an M Birch for hundreds of gigs between 2006 and 2008 and it never missed a beat. Miked up nicely and took a hammering.
I like the look of old Prems. There's always a Peral Export  . |

I'm thoroughly impressed by the Sonor 3005's I'm using just now.
Very solid but not too heavy to cart about, lovely sound, plus you seem to be able to get them and the Birch versions "fairly" cheap at the moment too. |
