Hi everyone,
Just a quick thread to recommend Cympads to everyone.
I used them last night at a gig and can't believe what a difference they made.
My cymbals sounded better than they ever have especially my Hi Hats and Ride Cymbal.
I really am surprised at the difference in using foam instead of felt.I thought they may be a gimmick but have been proved wrong.
Just looked at the website and Steve Smith is an endorsee.
Highly recommended.Give them a try.

Leave the top felt/pad off and you'll notice a heck of a difference in your cymbal sound.

I use a grommet in each cymbal's hole, and that sits on a stack of two grommet's on the cymbal stand's spigot. Minimal contact, maximum isolation, probably at least as good as Cympads, plus cheaper and more readily available.

Was it a venue you hadn't played before?

The hi hats sounded a lot brighter and clearer, the crashes were definitely more explosive and the ride sounded more defined.Even the guitarist in the band commented on the sound and I hadn't even said I was using anything new!
I was really impressed but obviously some people will like them, others won't!
The cymbals I was using were:
Sabian 14" Groove Hats
Sabian 16" Virgil Donati Saturation Crash
Sabian 18" El Sabor Crash
Paiste 2002 24" Ride
These always sound great but I have been gigging with them a lot over the past 5 years so I know them really well and there was a definite improvement in projection and sound.

I must be deaf, couldn't tell any difference with the standard cympads, trying the larger cympads just killed any bell dead. Not impressed.

What exactly was the net effect of the cympads?
