Posted - 20/04/2012 : 17:39:12 ....have just called me. I was sent a letter telling me they are looking for people in my area so I returned an application form for a laugh....and they like what they've heard so far. Apparantly if the producer agrees I will get a call next week to arrange a bit of filming before the proper week of filming at the end of May.

Posted - 18/05/2012 : 12:30:26 Shame you did not get it Rob, but TV people can be very strange. Their self-importance, and their ideas of how people and things SHOULD be are sometimes contrary to common sense. I helped to make a recreation of the first ever ice making machine, which was pumped by hand and grossly inefficient. The producer decided to film it in the Hot House at Kew Gardens and was very upset that it did not produce ice within a minute of pumping it! Even the best modern freezer would struggle to make ice in a Hot House! |

What a shame. Perhaps you were too gay/loud/obnoxious/ugly.
No, that can't be right, Rob is a drummer not a guitarist. |

Oh I find that hard to believe. He's a drummer, after all.

Posted - 17/05/2012 : 19:36:21 Oh well, doesn't matter now....
Didn't get picked.
Apparantly I wasn't right for the concept/formula idea for that particular episode. Whatever the feck that means. Anyhoo, Tom (who did the audition questions) said he really pushed for me to get chosen but they wouldn't budge. He is going to send me the footage they filmed of me though, so at least you'll get to see that.... |

So last night I had a trial run of the menu....
Starter- Pan fried monkfish with a small amount of chopped chili and lime juice, served on a bed of rocket then drizzled with a home made sweet chili/lemon/lime dressing and black pepper.
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/67Rob_photos/IMG_20120515_161045.jpg
Main- Chicken thigh meat cooked in a creamy cider and pepper sauce (herbs, onion, garlic, chicken stock etc) served with sauteed new potatoes (skins left on) and pan fried mange tout.
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee163/67Rob_photos/IMG_20120515_195544.jpg
Desert- I don't really do puddings but this came out bloody good More pan frying of chopped apple and banana with a small amount of castor sugar and a splash of brandy. Then place into ramakins on a crushed biscuit base, bake in oven then a trickle of brandy laced cream. Will find a better way of serving this on the day (if it's a yes).

Nice varied menu, Rob. That'd do me! With the desert no doubt it tastes excellent but the appearance is a bit bland. How about browning the top after cooking with a gas torch, even if it means sprinkling on a bit of sugar first. Give it some colour before adding the cream. |

Posted - 16/05/2012 : 20:24:35 Coupla tips, if I may? Feel free to ignore these but just my pennies worth:
Starter - sounds LARVELY. Tip on presentation, don't break the fish up; I think it'd look a lot better if you serve them one piece of fish. maybe put a smaller amount of rocket on the middle of the plate, in the shape of the fish, lay the piece of fish on top then season carefully and drizzle with the lime/chilli stuff. Maybe put a couple of lime twists on the plate too?
Main course - again, right up my street. If you slice the potatoes really thinly before you saute them it'll take less time to cook and then you can get the presentation a lot neater as well (and then they're essentially posh chips, which everyone loves). But I certainly wouldn't complain if I was served that!
Dessert - you could try doing one big thing like a sort of b*stardized tarte tatin: i.e. fry the fruit, spread the biscuit base over the bottom of a cake tin/tart dish and then put your fruit on top. Bake it for a bit, then maybe pop it into the fridge and leave it to set? If you serve it cold it'll give the base a chance to set (easier to slice up and serve), and plus it's less work for you as you don't have any timings to work with and can just get it out of the fridge when needs be.
Just my take on it, but sounds really good! Let us know when it's being broadcast too. |

I love the commentary and would love to do that part of it.
It seems in the last months that only weird and wacky 'I'm a right laugh me' types are getting on there?
