Hmm, this was quite a few years back. I seem to remember there were with and without drums versions on the Rhythm CD. If I get time I will see if I can find the CD and let you know. |

Totally agree...I have numerous rehearsal & gig recordings of us doing this one (done on a little digital thingy -sound great though!), and every version's different, and I can always think of some different fills that I could have done.The key to it all though is that swung intro, and 4 on the floor bass drum....I love it when the rest of the band aren't quite ready to come in, and the drum intro just has to keep going round...love it
Best song in our list at the moment, and one I never tire of playing. |

There's also various levels of ghosty-busy-ness you can add to it and still keep it discrete - as long as that kick is pumping fours in the verse. Like others, I never tire of playing this song. |

This track is number one on my list of most deceptively difficult pub gig tracks to get the feel right on.
I think a lot of it comes down to not too many bands having a real live clavi player?!

I think you're mixing up 'Higher Ground' (Stevie Wonder song) and 'Higher Love' (Steve Winwood song).
I saw Steve Winwood a couple of months ago at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. What a great drummer Richard Bailey is. |

Higher Ground is one I might need to learn - I think Winwood (or should I say Richard Bailey) plays a much more latin feel to it these days - any versions around that are recommended (apart from the original, of course). |

it's been my vote for dropping from the set for the past 3 years, has'nt happened yet.
Would'nt be so bad but every guitarist I've ever played it with wants to rush it and you spend so much time pulling back it's hard to groove properly.....
.... oh and I have to sing the fecker too. |

Superstition (and Higher Ground) are two songs to sort the men from the boys. It's one thing to be able to 'play' them, it's another to get them to really groove how they should. Love playing both of them but I don't pretend for a minute that I'm any good at it! |

You know Superstition is one I don't get bored with playing. Perhaps it is because it is just plain fun to play, or the drums only intro is enough to get people dancing on its own.
I found getting it to have that swing and swagger in the feel quite a challenge until I checked out the lesson Pete Riley did on it for Rhythm ages ago.
Hope your band don't want to play it too fast Prog, so many seem to. |
