I've been trying to find copper drum wrap of the type used by Fibes and Slingerland in the 1970's, but it doesn't seem to be available (if it was I guess it would be madly expensive given the price of metal at the moment). Does anyone here know of any alternative wrap available that would give a similar finish - I've tried the usual internet searches but have found nothing.
Many thanks for any help / advice.

The Slingerland clad sets were clad in a Copper PLATED steel...Then lacquered to stop oxidization...The lacquer broke down, the Copper turned black... ,(and the clad was fixed to the shell with some sort of Mastic... )
You looking for a polished, or satin finish ??.. |

Crikey peeps - sorry for the lack of response - kept an eye on this thread for a week or so, but no replies, so stopped checking. Thanks for replies - will look at suggested sites.
Gary - the Fibes kit I'm re-furbishing was originaly in a satin type finish with a light brushed effect. I bought it s/h in 1977 (for a then outrageous £550 for four drums). I toured it with a punk band in 1978 during which time it was heavily gobbed on - even in larger venues it got hit quite heavily. It obviously wasn't cleaned as well as I thought, because after being cased for a month or so during a lay-off, it emerged covered in green stains where the material had oxidised with the acid in the spittle. I tried to remove the staining, but the affected areas just turned black and the kit looked really horrible. It was then re-covered in white. |

| Very late in the day to add this:- But, being in the old plumbing game, i've just realised if you take an old copper tank, remove the lagging etc. You can quite easily angle grind the copper off in to sheets. Bit of polish (no spit) and ready to wrap drum! gonna try this the next time I take a cyinder out and wrap my DIY elec snare. Not sure what it will look like though. bes |
