I only ever seem to ask daft questions but here goes again. I am working on a project build and I am interested in whether light would shine through a white pearl wrap? I have seen clear acrylic kits with LEDs in them and wondered if they were wrapped in white pearl would there still be a glow through the wrap or not. I don't have any wrap lying around or I could just hold it over a lamp and see for myself.

| I've had the cheaper WMP stuff from ST drums. You could just see the wood of the shell through it so I guess light would shine through to some extent. I've had thicker WMP wrap that I do not believe light would shine through. |

| I have some WMP and LEDS so il have a look. I think the stuff I have is thicker, but would be interested to see the thinner stuff with a light behind it. |

Good Morning,
I have used the ST cheaper White Pearl too, on birch shells there was no problem with translucence.
However I have also recently used their TW Red Pearl, it has no backing and is very translucent. I would imagine you would get a pretty good result with that stuff. But then it's red.

Maybe the cheaper TW wrap is the way to go here then I will give Gerd a shout. will let you know how it goes
I didn't know you were a member here Rich but you are the very man who would know. Stick a bit of wrap against one of your lovely acrylic snare with the LEDs and see if it shines through. I picked up the toms last night and all is well with them so I will be in touch again about the bass and snare.

Only joined recently when i noticed people had come to our page from this site.
Yeh il have a look against one of our snares, dont think it will be as sucessful as the TW stuff, but we'll see.
Let us know what Gerd says about the wrap too, quite interested in this idea! |

| Another idea might be to cut paper, perhaps with printed patterns on it, and fit it into the shells, perhaps with double sided tape. All sorts of fancy papers these days from arts and crafts suppliers, and places like Paperchase. Or print your own design onto paper or clear film. |

| FKB, ex of this parish, used to wrap FEPOS kits in wallpaper which he then lacquered. Something similar would no doubt work well if thinner wrap doesn't. |

Yeah Captain the idea of a printed paper, maybe even with the band logo on it , applied to the inside of the shell might work well. That might be an option if I can't make the WMP work.
What does appeal to me about the pearl wrap is that it would look good without the lights on and the lights could then be used sparingly during the set for greater effect.

This morning i wrapped an acrylic LED snare in the thicker WMP wrap. I was quite suprised as to how much light is let through. The wrap actually glows quite nicely

That is kind of what I had in mind. Hopefully the TW wrap will light just a bit more light through but that looks pretty good the way it is. If anyone knows where I could find a cheapish bass and snare in clear acrylic let me know. Not too worried about make or condition bearing in mind what I plan to do with it.

Okay latest update is that Michaela at ST Drums was kind enough to send me samples of all of their white pearl wraps. Nice stuff they are too. For this project the important thing was to establish whether light would shine through them or not. The least translucent were the delmar wraps and the most translucent was the TW white pear (big pattern). Surprisingly there was a substantial difference between the big and small TW pattersns. The pics here show the difference between a strip of delmar white pearl and a astrip of TW big pattern warp.

I think I will go ahead and try the big pattern TW. I will order enough for a full kit but try it out on one tom first of all. Still looking for a bass drum but not finding it easy. |

Wow!! That looks fantastic Lenny, really bright and evenly spread light by the looks of it. You had me confused for a while as I thought it was a wrapped wooden-shelled kit and I wondered how it was lit up. But it's acrylic, that makes sense, doh! Nice work  |

I'm loving the look of the kit, but how can you get away with a glow in the dark kit in a band called The Sneaks?
Actually forget that - you can't get away with drums really in a band called the Sneaks :) |
