I work in a school and they have given me £500 to buy an electronic drum kit. Which one is best at that budget?

I have been looking at the Alesis DM8 usb and the Alesis DM8 Pro which seem quite good. Is the Pro that much better?

Any other brands that you would recommend? Bearing in mind I have a limit of £500.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Katie

Does it have to be brand new?

If yes, then I'd say the Yamaha DTX500.

Hi, I think they are looking for a new kit but I could look secondhand. Which kits would you look for secondhand? Thanks for your help so far!

Another vote for the DTX500 if you can get one for that.

I would put a vote against alesis here - they seem to be a little flimsy and not so well build. I have a had a couple of students complain that their alesis kits have broken, and no where does a drum kit take more of a punishing than a in a school!

Indeed. An Alesis kit won't last five minutes in a school.

The Alesis kits are very flimsy but the Modules are very good buy a new alesis module and buy some mesh heads for an accoustic kit and the some external triggers then the kit can be used for both accoustic or electronic within a few minutes.

You could probably snag a Roland TD4 on the 'Bay or classifieds for less than £500.

+1 for Logic-user99 in this.
The only option in my opinion. A used roland Td-3,4 or 6.

Yes, A TD-3,4 or 6 would be a great investment. But I think the kids could make their own DIY pads/meash heads as a project?

I'd go for the best used Roland I could get for the money.

Take a look at the Yamaha DTXplorer and DTXpress 3. You can get a DTXplorer on eBay for around £250 - £300 and it is EXACTLY the same as the DTX500 which costs around £500. Even better is the DTXpress 3 which can also be found for around £300
