| Light and minimalist -- just right for modern drums, I'd say. And I do like the leather badge. |

Not too keen on the leather badge, but I do find myself leaning towards smaller lugs nowadays.
As already stated, simple and elegant.

| If they're single point fixing and have a small footprint, then I'd have worries about putting too much strain on the shell, particularly for snare drums. And if they they're a solid piece, then I'd worry about not having any tolerance to accomodate tension rods and hoops that don't sit exactly in line with the lugs. Just my thoughts. |

Cheers, The badge is another taste thing.. I'm working on a personalisable metal one for people who ain't into leather! We just thought it was a bit quirky and not something i'd seen before.
Thanks for the other concerns too.. I do have some versions of these with a tube between them on the way to dampen snare tension worries (as well as styling options) but I gave some of these rediculous amounts of tension to test them on another shell and they performed well... would need to be tubed on 3mm or 4.5mm shells with high tension but 6mm and above is good. most snares I do are 6mm for electric and that or thicker for acoustic anyway.
The lugs were built for the exact diameter of the shells which only have a 1mm tollarance so there is plenty of play, even with diecast hoops with smaller holes. No different to a normal tube lug, except even better as they are done to the exact shell diameters. I Just have to make sure we drill the holes in the exact right places which is never a problem.

Nicely done, making lugs is very satisfying.
I think a tube lug would be great, especially if you did full length ones for the kit!

Maybe we should start a thread containing just custom lug creations... I love them. To me it is so much of a builders identity..
not saying there is anything wrong with standard import lugs of which there are a good few decent ones... its just that extra mile to stand out I love... I love steve at checquerplates take on lugs with his center hollow circle too. |

| The Highwood Hallmark has a similar shape, looks good to me and relatively cheap to mass produce I'd guess. |

| Tube lugs are tube lugs are tube lugs. There are a lot around that look very similar. There's not much that can be done with them design-wise, apart from the mounting bosses - like Prems new nose cone type. Cast or machined lugs have the potential for interesting designs and a lot more character. |

The hallmark one is nice too, looks bigger than mine with different detailing and fixing methods.
the one off std snares & kits (non hallmark) are smaller @ 19mm & attach like a conventional lug so about the same size as yours, different detail. |
