Feckity Feck Feck FECK!
Got my insurance renewal this morning - £3,000 - I nearly fell over and I haven't been drinking. Granted that is for three cars, but even so. I shall be checking out Moneysupermarket and the meerkats later. |

If it is for 3 cars then would that be the Admiral multi car policy ?
If so then in my experience when you first join up with them the deal they offer you for a "multi car" policy looks to equate to exactly the same cost as what it would be to insure all your cars individually elsewhere - I guess the service you pay for on the multi car policy is that they add up the total amount for you !
Then when it comes to renewal you find it goes up even more !!
Yes - I did go with Admiral..... for one year only until the renewal came through
Didn't even save on paper as you still get duplicate paperwork for each car. |

That does sound a bit steep. Unless perhaps you are covered to drive all three cars at the same time. |

| I have been with Swiftcover for 3 years now and even last year it went down by 12%. I search around every year but could only get it 2 quid cheaper last time so didn't bother changing. I do live out in the sticks and i'm in my 50s so that probably explains my £160 fully Comp policy! |

I'd be careful with this, if you check the policy fine print, they reserve the right to cancel your policy without notice if the box shows you doing something they don't like. My mate had one and he lost his insurance when 'inadvertantly' did 90 on the motorway.
If you get pulled by the police after the insurance is cancelled - even if they haven't told you, then you're in the doo doo |

Not heard about this before. People actually pay to let a company put a box in their car that will record their every move - apparently all in real time. I know the technology is there, and I wouldn't be surprised when the next generation of cars navi-systems do this - but to actually let someone do it and pay for it?? BAAD.

I have heard rumours that sat nav companies can provide info to the fuzz if required with such details.
Ever the conspiracy theorist, just in case like, I have entered my home address on my sat nav as the address of someone I don't like. And I've never paid for an update so they can't link the device to me in any way...
I work for a well known insurance mediary involving a certain type of Botswanian Mongeese. they have offered staff discounts for having the black box. I did not volunteer. |

Precisely. The Fiesta is the same price as last year (No1 Daughter driving makes that pricey), though I have already had a quote saving me £200 on that alone. The other two cars are £200-£300 more than our previous insurer, so bye bye Admiral I think. Unfortunately we had a claim this year, typically on the car with no no claims bonus, but I didn't expect such a premium hike. Research tomorrow. |

| The black box thing I think is outrageous, not only because of the whole 'big brother' aspect, but also more fundamentally because I can't see how 'responsible driving' is a black-and-white matter of right and wrong. Maybe in terms of speed limits it is (though there might well be circumstances in which breaking the limit is the right thing to do - getting out of the way of an emergency vehicle, for instance), but I gather they also measure things like cornering forces. Definitely not something I'd voluntarily subscribe to. |

One of the things these black boxes access is now hard you break; but without a camera system attached to the box, they can't assess why you had to break hard. |

Indeed, I generall do with insurance. I have been searching this afternoon and can save a massive £800 buying separate new policies - from my current insurer, though there are cheaper offers too. Words will be had I think.
I shall be avoiding the little black boxes like the plague, not a good idea at all. |

A friend of mine in Belfast was quoted £8500 for his son driving a Peugot...
I would have offered them £10K just to round it up.
No wonder so many drive and take the chance of getting caught..? |

I use sheila's wheels. don't know how good it is on multi car cover. The renewal always comes through as an increase, so i go online and enquire about a new policy, which is always cheaper than the renewal. The enquiry prompts shells wheels to ring me, thinking i am a new prospective customer and i sort out a cheaper renewal price on line. They are very patient and go through all the options to keep the price down. I did not realise for instant that putting my husband on as a named driver decreased the cost.
They give you a little accident pack with a card to hand to the other party, not that i have ever needed it, in fact i don't know where it is now. |

| Sheila's Wheels is quite expensive for what I need as it happens. Will continue searching over the weekend. Unfortunately, and how typical, No1 Daughter had a minor altercation with a concrete post in the Fiesta yesterday, her first bump since she started driving, nobody else involved, so I need to sort that out first. |

Sorry to point out the obvious Yard, but this is why young drivers insurance is expensive. That post may just be a child next time. |

Along with clamping companies, insurance companies are SOTE. Had an accident last year, scooter overtook me as I was turning right. How rude of me to indicate and make a manoeuvre when he was on the road. Anyway, £3k of damage to my car. No worries, I have No Claim Bonus protection - been paying it for year. At renewal time - BANG, premium goes from 1250 to 2500 (live in London). NCB protection didnt count for chite. Still, it looked good on the certificate.
Hate them with a passion. Dont even think about loyalty. Luke is right. Shop around.

It was in a car park, one of the wall protectors that stick out at wheel level. She is generally a pretty good driver, and everyone can be careless occasionally. Nobody was hurt, only her pride. |
