Hi guys and girls, i have recently been looking for drum mutes on ebay and have come across some by rocksolid does anyone know what these are like?? Also seen they do a few other lines that could be of interest. Any advice on this or other brands that you can suggest would be good.
I'm not familiar with the brand you've mentioned but I've come across several different brands of mutes in the course of buying used drum kits for students and they seem to vary from the Vic Firth types which are more fabric in composition and do a very good job of damping to those which are almost solid rubber which are a bit louder and give more rebound on account of their more solid composition.
It's all a matter of preference really. If sound reduction is the biggest concern then the Vic Firths really do their job well, but that's not to say that others don't and it may well be that very similar ones are available much cheaper (some sets appear to be half the cost of the Vic Firths).
Might be best to try some out to try and get some that feel as close to real as possible for your budget - otherwise practising may become a bit of a chore?
