Has anyone here had any experience with Turkish cymbals - that's the specifically named make rather than Turkish cymbals in general!
I think they have chosen a rather unfortunately generic name which will make marketing difficult and confusing. Maybe I'm wrong?

Sadly, I can't get their sound files to play on my PC. |

I have had lots of nice Turkishs (!) - especially the "Classic" series are very straightforward B20 cymbals - just about what a Zildjian A should be, but really aren´t any longer.

| yep quite a bit, I played a shop load in a factory outlet in istanbul. I agre with Jon, the Classics are nice, not as vanilla as A's (even old ones) IMO they have some great stuff. I had the apex hihats (now moved on) nice powerful and interesting! like a k hybrid over a handhammered extra heavy Z custom bottom! |

| I like the look of those Apex jobbies. Where do you think I could get at least a price for them? A quick web search yielded no results |

| Compared to Zildjian K/Z's that's pretty cheap tbh. Shame that the UK dealer is so far away from me (dahn sarf). I'll have to think carefully before I take a punt anyway. |

I mean can anyone get the sound samples to play from their website...http://www.turkishcymbals.com ?
Nothing seems to play on the list page and then if I go to the individual item and click on the arrow, I get a sound like someone scrunching paper.
I hope they sound better than that in reality! |

| Turkish cymbals are one of the last e-bay bargains. I have a Turkish Rock Beat 10" splash, £35 and I've not heard better. Great cymbal. I also had a Turkish 20" Ping Ride. It was advertised as a 20" crash and I got it for £60. The seller contacted me after the auction closed to explain the mistake and see if I still wanted it. I thought for £60 it was worth a look. 3100g! Monster ping, but not what I needed. Better than a Zildjian Ping I'd tried though. Sold it on BIN £99 no bother. There's a pair of Turkish ex-display quick-beat copy hi-hats for £110 BIN at the moment that I bet are excellent. I've liked every pair of quick-beats I've played and I'm really tempted, even though I don't actually need more hi-hats. Maybe a reshuffle is called for? If you're needing a 20" general purpose medium ride you won't do better for £99. There's plenty of Istanbuls, Byzance and Bosphorus rides knocking around for less than £200 at the moment if you want a name though. I'm looking for a 20" Trad crash (or maybe crash/ride) at the moment so the e-bay search has become a daily ritual! Mmm, gear! |
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing.

Hey Benji - as you know, I now have your Apex hats and am loving them and they sit really well with my other Turkish Cymbals Classic series. They are really very nice cymbals, made the way cymbals should be made.
I also have a set of TC 13"Hats which are great but a little too warm for contemporary music - although ideal for jazz or quieter music - and the Apex hats just suit a modern genre so well. |

| when I was there I'm pretty sure it was one of the higher up people in Mehmet who formed TURKISH. the woman at the shop didn't hesitate to tell me this... I think she was trying (in broken english so tricky at times!) to say that TURKISH are bought by the locals more. and mehmet experiments are often branded TURKISH so the Apex line is also the mehmet 'studio' line. but in the shops over there the Mehmets cost more. and bossy were the most expensive. |

I was offered a virtually new 18" Turkish Classic 'Rock' Crash for about £40 when I went to pick up an Ebay purchase last year. It looked like a bargain so I bought it. I was right, it was. If I'm just taking one crash out, that's the one I choose. Of course, all this talk will drive the second hand prices up now! |
