"Spare a thought for Michael O’Leary, Chief Executive of 'Ryanair'.......
Arriving in a hotel in Dublin, he went to the bar and asked for a pint of draught Guinness. The barman nodded and said, "That will be one Euro please, Mr. O’Leary."
Somewhat taken aback, O'Leary replied, "That's very cheap," and handed over his money.
"Well, we try to stay ahead of the competition", said the barman. "And we are serving free pints every Wednesday evening from 6 until 8. We have the cheapest beer in Ireland"
"That is remarkable value" Michael comments
"I see you don't seem to have a glass, so you'll probably need one of ours. That will be 3 euro please."
O'Leary scowled, but paid up. He took his drink and walked towards a seat. "Ah, you want to sit down?" said the barman. "That'll be an extra 2 euro. - You could have pre-book the seat, and it would have only cost you a Euro."
"I think you may to be too big for the seat sir, can I ask you to sit in this frame please" Michael attempts to sit down but the frame is too small and when he can't squeeze in he complains "Nobody would fit in that little frame".
"I'm afraid if you can't fit in the frame you'll have to pay an extra surcharge of €4.00 for your seat sir"
O'Leary swore to himself, but paid up. "I see that you have brought your laptop with you" added the barman. "And since that wasn't pre-booked either, that will be another 3 euro."
O'Leary was so annoyed that he walked back to the bar, slammed his drink on the counter, and yelled, "This is ridiculous, I want to speak to the manager".
"Ah, I see you want to use the counter," says the barman, "that will be 2 euro please." O'Leary's face was red with rage.
"Do you know who I am?"
"Of course I do Mr. O'Leary,"
"I've had enough, What sort of Hotel is this? I come in for a quiet drink and you treat me like this. I insist on speaking to a manager!"
"Here is his E mail address, or if you wish, you can contact him between 9 and 9.10 every morning, Monday to Tuesday at this free phone number. Calls are free, until they are answered, then there is a talking charge of only 10 cent per second"
"I will never use this bar again"
"OK sir, but remember, we are the only hotel in Ireland selling pints for one Euro" |

I never ever ever EVER use Ryanair.
O'Leary has proven himself to be a great businessman and tw@t.
My problem is I'm not the greatest flier, but when I do fly I like to be treated well. Airports are the most stressful places in the world for me, so having to deal with their staff only makes it worse.
I happily pay more. Having said that, if you can plan your trip well in advance some of the major airlines can be almost as cheap.
I flew BMI to Naples last week. Excellent and not too pricey. |

I don't get all this Ryanair-bashing. Seriously I don't.
I flew to Malaga in April year for the total sum of £28 - RETURN! I couldn't get a train to London for that. I checked in online, rocked up to the airport, straight through security, quick pint, then got on the plane (with about a 10 minute queue). Got there earlier than scheduled, straight off the plane and I was away. Exactly the same coming back, and I had exactly the same experience last year when I flew in the height of summer for less than £70 return.
Admittedly, I'm Ryanairs worst customer - I don't pay for a suitcase, I check in online, and I even have a Ryanair pre-pay card so I don't pay the £12 return credit card fee. But what do people actually want?? People talk as though low-cost airlines are ripping people off, and everyone should have a right to dirt-cheap flights.
No...accept what Ryanair is, it's pretty much a flying bus/train. You turn up, get on, sit where you can, and you get off a couple of hours later. You want a dedicated pre-booked seat? Fine pay for it. Want a meal (that you will inevitably complain about anyway) - fine, pay for it (or do what I do and get a £3.50 boots meal deal at the airport!). Again, you want to take more luggage than anyone else - pay for it!
As far as I'm concerned Ryanair don't make any bones about what they are - you either accept it and fly cheaply, or you pay more for 'luxuries'. Personally, I'm on the thing for less than 3 hours and I have a paper and my iPod - I couldn't care less where I sit or whether I've got a TV in front of me! |

| My post was meant to be slightly tongue in cheek and I'm sure if you want a quick get away to the sun , Ryanair is fine , trying to travel with musical instruments however , isn't as stress free as once you step out of the norm it all seems to become suddenly very expensive , I'm sure many people enjoy what they have to offer just when its work , for me they don't work . |

Can't understand why people moan about Ryanair, when you book you tick a box that says you agree to their terms and conditions so why go off on one just because you didn't read them.
I have flown to many places around Europe with them probably nearly 50 flights in all and there was one delay which was snow at Edinburgh which as far as i can tell wasn't caused by Ryanair.
If you are willing to go out of season there are many bargains to be had and 75 million folk flew with them last year so out of that lot there will be a fair few moaners and whingers but there are folk like that everywhere. I bet there will be folk complaining about the top airlines business class.
My best deal was Prestwick to Faro a good few years back in January for 2 pence return each....yes 2 pence return, was a cheap holiday that! |
