I felt i suffered every hardware problem possible in one gig last night..and i think i need to reconsider my set or do you chaps have some top tips...the gig is a quick set up and line check with a stage with slightly uneven "non slip" rubber matting.

Heres a list of things that happened

My Iron Cobra two legged HiHat stand lent to one side, and wobbled all night.

The Bass drum started creeping across the stage immiediatly

The DW5000 pedal plate wouldn't sit flush to the floor

After lots of fiddling to get it in the right spot my Heavy Ride started gradually collapsing on its boom eventually resting on the bass drum in the middle of a song.

Despite constantly tighting it, my stool top continued to wobble.

I couldnt get my snare basket to sit at the right angle it either was to angled or too flat.

Cymbals rested wonky on their felts.

At the end of the night my Hihat rod jammed, as i tried to unscrew it
the pedal plate unscrewed at the bottom and dropped to the floor.

I'm only using a 4 piece kit with a 2 Crashes and a Ride.. how hard can it be!

The floor is level but has three mats of none slip rubber, that dont cover the stage properly and dont really fit together, so even putting my drum mat on top wouldnt really help.

I think my bass drum was bouncing in the air and moving rather than sliding.

After some calm reflection, i think i need to have a word with the venue and just tell them to install a carpet on a level surface, that would have helped a bit.

I have a Pearl H800W Hi-Hat stand and it must be nearly 10 years old, been up and down more times than a naughty lady's underwear and it still works perfectly.

Uneven stages...we've all been there

Resonators and Ufips....just beautiful. www.vintageolympic.co.uk

Rotocasting is definitely the pinnacle of cymbal manufacture!

My 30 year old Yammie one is the same - the bit that comes undone from the pedal is probably [scientific phrase] jammed from old age [/scientific phrase]..

Despite your gear having a life of its own, did the punters enjoy the gig?

Hi Wendy

On this particular gig the punters ARE the gig...its a Rockaoke gig , so the punters get up and sing with the band.

It's good fun and the audience like it.

I think it breaks down the "them and us" feeling, it also gives me time to fix my busted drums during change overs.
