I am receiving an 18" Bass drum this weeks, and from the not-very good pics, I assume it has the simple bullet-shaped Ajax lugs - or are they more like the ones seen on EMI/Hamma kits of the seventies?

Like these:

I would like to find a 12x8 and a 14x14" - or build them from any other thin shell with rings.

For that, I would need 12 for a 12" and 16 for a 14" - 28 in all. There are 14 for sale from Andy Bronson - does anyone here have 14 more, or some toms with these lugs?

Hi Jon,

I think you'll find the Hamma lugs are not the same as the Ajax lugs. Can you post the 'not very good' pics?

I thought these lugs were the same as the Ajax ones:

But I can see now they arenīt.

So - what is the bass?

Would Premier speedboats look out of place?

Maybe not?

I have another kit with Speedboats already, so for the variation....

But can anyone recognize the bass?

Here is a closer pic of the lugs:

Well, the drum has arrived at last, and judging from the shell (undeniably mahogany Premier) and the construction of the lugs (Premier insert holders) I conclude it IS an EMI/Hamma. Or whatever else would Premier have badged such a Tenor with those lugs?

So, to complete it as a nice little Bop-kit, I will look out for 12x8 and 14x14" mahogany shells, preferably Olympics, if not Premiers - and enough EMI/Hamma lugs to complete them. Does anybody know if the spacing between mounting screws on EMI/Hamma lugs is the same as on Speedboats?
