Before today I only had one snare, the standard poplar export (EXR) snare that came with my kit, which, with the help from some good Evans heads and tight tuning sounds really good (yes, the pearl snare sounds good!)
But.. I bought a new and very cheap second hand snare today because I need one to use with triggers for an 80's cover band. Its a Pearl Mirror Chrome Steel Shell snare and I'm wondering, which is going to be better? Which one should I sacrifice for triggering? Should I transfer the newer hardware from my export snare onto the steel shell?
One thing I've noticed with the poplar snare is that the bearing edges have over time become damaged although I still do like the sound this snare produces. Either way I'm interested to hear your thoughts.
Very true! I suppose I'm asking because I can't hear how the Mirror Chrome sounds without de-skinning my current snare. I'm hoping someone has used one before!
Do I understand correctly that you only bought the shell? Maybe you need to search for all the bits to build two complete drums, compare the two for sound, then decide which one should be triggered. Its not a cheap drum if it doesnt work for you as it stands.
