So I've got a bit of cash saved up and would like a new snare, specifically a beaded, steel shell 6.5".
Now I've played both the 1036 and the Ian Paice snare's at some point over the years and love both. I've got the Pearl Steve Ferrone and dig that. Quality drum. I've also just bought a big old Premier Elite, so would be kinda nice to have an old Prem snare to go with it.
Now I know ultimately mine ears will decide, but I ask you: Which would you go for, given the choice?
Cheers! |

Personally I think the Steve Ferrone snare is a lovely drum and I'd be inclined to stick with that!

| Deffo keeping the Steve Ferrone! That one's going no where. Always the 'go-to' snare. |

| Both great drums. As a Premier man I go through periods of being on semi-alertness for a 1036 but never found one at the right price, by which I mean cheap enough :-) An Ian Paice will be easier to find I think, but speaking for myself if I bought one I'd still be hankering for a Premier 6 months down the line, despite the Pearl being a lovely snare. For Other people the reverse will be true. None of which helps!! |
Once I've hit it, it stays hit.

I've got the Ian Paice one, and I think it's a brilliant piece of kit. As above, let the ears decide! |

Just a thought! – have you considered the pearl Sensitone stainless steel 6.5"? Arguably a better drum than the Ian Paice and you can pick them up very reasonably. I have one and it is a superb bit of kit.
Sorry – I hate it too when people don't answer the question but thought it was worth a mention. |
