I laughed even more at this :
"David Gauke MP claimed £10,248.32 expenses back from taxpayers to avoid paying the stamp duty and fees involved in the purchase of his home in London. Not only is that in his own words “morally repugnant”, it is beyond hypocritical to lecture others against doing what he himself did. It is shameless."
I did also wonder why it's morally repugnant for the customer to pay cash for work - that's standard practice - not too many tradesmen carry card machines & most are wary of cheques for good reason.
It's the tradesman's job to report his earning to HMRC, pay his VAT etc, so why start picking on the customer.
Anyhoo, any un-taxed earning will very quickly be back in the tax system, as soon as the builder walks into his local pub

Cash for services is all over the place - what about music lessons? How many people pay by card or cheque for drum or other music lessons? In my experience its cash. How the teacher then manages that with tax is not my problem.
I wish they offered me a discount for cash anyway! haha |
