I recently bought this snare and wondered whether any of you wonderful chaps could please ID it for me? There doesn't seem to be any name of any kind on it.

I just wanted to check it's not a really good one before I rip it apart!

What do you mean by "rip it apart"? Are you planning to use it for a project or experiment?

Thanks guys! I just needed to be sure.

I'm going to turn it into a clock for my drum room!

I'm just working out how to make the clock hands look like drumsticks!

Ah, using an electronic movement? keep the hands VERY light and carefully balanced, very thin aluminium or plastic sheet. Ali better because you can bend it so that the hands don't connect.

Yes, the movements are quite widely available but they usually just have 3 or 4 design of hands. I thought I'd cover the standard hands with something drummy but was waiting to see how they reacted to the extra weight. I'll look for aluminium then, Thanks Cap'n.

Are you using the drum so it keeps time?

If you can't find the right aluminium, cut a set of drums sticks to the proper length, then use a planer on one side of the stock and shave them down

I have adapted electronic movements for Museum displays and the balance is more critical than the weight, but the weight must still be pretty small, look at most e-clock hands and they are thin!

An old drinks or coffee tin should be alright, cut to shape with sharp scissors or metal shears, balance on a fine pivot (knife edge in a vice?) and mark the centre, drill it here very slightly smaller than the movement's shaft, or hammer a pin or nail through it while its on a board.

Awesome, thanks! Wouldn't have thought of drinks tins but will give it a go. I shall post some pics when it's finished.
