They only got those same 5 or 6 songs on a CD or something? Why are they playing the same songs over and over again?
Not as good as the opening ceremony so far. Holding out for The Who! |

This is an abomination.
Surely not everyone watching this is 15 years old? I certainly don't want to be subjected to several hours of this "R n' B" bull turd. Jessie J (I had to be told who she was, looks and sounds like a generic pop singer/X-Factor contestant if ever there was one) was right out of tune and just plain bad... looks like everyone else is miming....
Is there likely to be any real music at any point? If not I'm going to have to turn it off pretty shortly. I would be upset if I had paid to go and see it.
Rant over, carry on. |

I'll admit I had to eat my words on how the whole games panned out, right from the start everyone did themselves proud.
But sorry, that ending was a huge anti-climax. I found the small section of rock and pop music in the opening ceremony far more uplifting and entertaining than all of that cliche riddled over theatrical pap I have just watched.
Good on ya GB though overall. |

Going good until Russell Brand.
Picked up a bit for a while then we had Rio's introduction and all was back on track.
Overall, well done I say. (Except for The Who playing My Generation. Come on...)

I enjoyed the closing ceremony and watched to the end. Yes, there were some bits That were better than others, many artists mimed and the choice of music was a little cliched, but it was probably stuff that was known in many parts of the world and it was a party for the world, not just Britain.
Today is going to be rather dull after the excitement of the last two weeks. Ah well, it will soon be Christmas. |

Closing ceremony: not as good as the opening but then it was billed as "a party" not a "statement". The Brillant, eccentric opening ceremony made me feel buoyant, the closing, semi-submerged. However heres my 2p worth..
1. George Michael: Please tell him that its not the arena for blatantly flaunting his new material. 2. Eric Idle: Fantastically irreverent. Bravo. And sung the "s" word live too. Bravo again. 3. Emile Sande: I know Adele is busy being pregnant and you sound a bit like her but two spots on the bill? Blimey! 4. Kaiser Chiefs: Covering Pin Wizz when the real deal is back stage. Balls of steel.. 5. The "models": No, no and thrice no. 6. Freddie: You are so sorely missed. You would have stolen this show.. 7. Ray Davies: Shaky, bless 'im. 8. Ukrainian female athletes: oh, yes. 9. Russel Bland: Why? 10. Missing in Action: Stones, Zep, Iron Maiden, The Specials, Sting, Kate Bush... 11. Jacques Rogge. Has anyone seen him smile? The quote in the Grauniad summed him up "Reminds me of Davros (head of the Daleks) but with less charm" 12. The "homage" to the Pink Floyd album cover: A damp Guy Fawkes methinks 13. I could go on (cynically) about Rolls Royces being German cars, wtf was the newspaper all abaht then?, the Spice Girls, Seb Coes dull Headmaster-at-sports-day speech etc. but the real stars were the competitors and the organisers and the volunteers. Well done. You did great. |

Agreed about George Michael. I really like his new single actually, they've been caning it on Radio 2 the past couple of weeks. But this kind of concert is NOT the time or place to be promoting your new, unknown, single!
And the Kaiser Chiefs, jeez...who dragged them from obscurity? |

I was there with my family in the stadium last night. I took it for what it was, went with an open mind and had a great time, as did my parents and my aunt who came with me, and everyone else around me in the stadium, young and old. And it sounded great from where I was sitting, which was about 5 rows from the back up the top (which, coincidentally gave us a perfect view of the whole thing too).
So there nur.

When the athletes over-ran timewise getting into the stadium, why play the same backing tape again? Exactly the same performance the featured “stars” had just mimed over. Did no-one have another CD they could have played instead?
Symbols of British Industry featured London Taxi (Chinese) Rolls Royce (German) MG (Chinese) Jaguar (Indian) Landrover (Indian) Ford (USA)
and a VW Camper??
Did the models get lost on their way to a party somewhere? Good job there wasn’t any Testing being done at the Closing ceremony…..
Disappointing, predictable shambles with the usual subjects. Only highlights were The Who, Choir and the John Lennon Mask.

| I sadly missed the opening ceremony, I fell asleep bored to tears in the closing one, but all the sports in between and they're participants were absolutely spell binding and well done team GB! I predicted about a dozen or so golds and some of the other colours, how wrong I was. |

True. Caterham (now Malaysian owned) so that would just leave Morgan, Ginetta and a few Kit car manufacturers? Doesn't matter in the scheme of things, just noticed it when I saw the Chinese MGs. Sorry they were Bentleys, still ugly cars.

I thought the Who tribute act were OK. The Oasis tribute act were lucky enough to posess a singer that actually looked like Noel Gallagher - but sounded nothing like him. The Pink Floyd tribute act must have been a hastily arranged Dep as the scruffy singist looks like he forgot his stage gear.
Seriously this was not worth a look for anyone remotely interested in music and a absolute cheek to be laballed as 'the Cream of British Rock and Pop' from the last 50 years. At least we didn't get Coldplay.
that first Elbow song seemed to last longer than some albums I own. The Bee Gees rap was too long. and why the double dose of Pet Shop Boys, One Direction and Madness?
I might have stuck with it if the real cream were there - British Rock is the best of course and the biggest bands the world will ever see are:
Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Queen, Stones and the Beatles.
I'm not a fan of all of these but respect the legacy. But it was not about music it was about a show. A pantomime. A spectacle.
Why have Elvis Costello, Paul Weller, Roxy Music or any from the list above when you could get One Direction? Spice Girls? Beady Eye?

Morgan Cars of Malvern Link, some racing cars and some kit car companies are about all that is left of the British Motor Industry, but they were all squeezed out by powerful foreign corporations, sadly a huge black mark against the 2012 games. |

there was a Morgan lost behind acres of beemers etc. . . .a centenary roadster model ( 2010 V6) ! The show as a 'wedding party' it seemed to work - - it was far too long imo - and why no Stones ( should always play the Stones at a 'wedding' shurely ??) Why have Elvis Costello, Paul Weller, Roxy Music or any from the list above when you could get One Direction? Spice Girls? Beady Eye?
Can someone have a word with certain mature performers about the touchy subject of 'Hair'. Roger seems to have it nailed but Bri? Ray?.
Maybe they wanted elements of the celebration to appeal to people born in the last 30 years?
I'd agree with that and noticeable that the athletes seemed to prefer the Taio Cruz/Tinie Tempah/Jessie J kind of stuff too. I still don't know why they wheeled out Paul McCartney for the opening ceremony, there are enough brilliant younger bands to put on and drive the whole thing forwards. I thought the Kaiser Chiefs sounded more like The Who in their youth than The Who did.
Sometimes I think us Brits are just a little too fond of nostalgia... |

Some hilarious tweets here about the closer: https://twitter.com/#!/search/?q=closingceremony
Including these gems... "If the Olympic Closing Ceremony doesn't end with a gigantic Monty Python foot extinguishing the flame then we have failed as a nation."
"When does Austin Powers show up?.."
"Why Didn't the Cast of Shaun of the Dead recreate the Zombie Attack to Queen's Don't Stop Me Now in the Closing Ceremony?"

In order to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe
"There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."
