A bit strange that it has die-cast hoops though.

It's also got 10 lugs per side on the bass drum and it has the plinth badges so it isn't an XPK. This looks to be an interesting kit and wondering whether it's a Premier experiment of some sort. The shell also looks fairly thick on the bass drum photo.

Die cast hoops, 10 lug bass drums and plinth badges don't suggest cheap from that era and it's too old to be an Artist if he's had it the length of time he says he has.

It gets more intersting then? Didn't spot the die cast hoops, and certainly didn't even consider that the plinth badges were only on the "better" kits. The strainer is a pretty basic affair, not line the nice strainer and quick release butts fitted to genistas.

Yes it is. It's a late '90's XPK Vitria. Maple/Merranti shells, pro-spec fittings. It's a great kit if you're into the die-cast hoop thing. But yes, overpriced, and certainly not a Genista.

Price - it's unclear what is or isn't included, but I'd say fair market value would be £300 for the shell pack or £400 inc hardware.

Ah, the Vitria. There's a gap in my Prem knowledge that covers that era.

There was also the XPK Astria which had Birch/Eucalyptus/Birch shells but triple flange hoops. I never quite understood why they had so many options at the time and why the model names sounded like cars!
The XPK and XPK Astria sets came with the same finishes whilst the Vitria sets had 5 different ones.

Resonators and Ufips....just beautiful. www.vintageolympic.co.uk

How does the seller not know what it is if he bought it new?

It was called Vitria because we were trying to spec up the XPK and the idea was that it was an XPK on Viagra. We called to Viagra for ages but couldn't take it to the market with that name, so we called it Vitria, it's slightly cheaper cousin was called Astria.

Then they didn't sell because nobody could understand the names and what they meant so we changed them to Artist Maple and Birch. The die-cast hoops were the ones used on the Signia Marquis, Premier discovered the casts and didn't know that they had them. 15" cast was smashed so they never offered a 15" tom in the Signia Marquis series.

I always thought it sounded too close to "vitriol".

Bored At Work, that insight is absolutely brilliant.
The fact that Premier didn't know they had the casts in the first place & then didn't offer a 15" Tom purely & simply because they'd smashed that cast is brilliant information.
Thanks for sharing those stories

Cheers,
Mark W.

I found that interesting as well!

Mid life crisis kicked in, drum kit bought. It's not quite like cycling though, you forget. A lot!
