The Mavericks’ Paul Deakin Joins Sonor’s Artist Roster
Sonor Drums proudly welcomes Paul Deakin, founding member and drummer for The Mavericks, to its prestigious artist roster. Reflecting on his partnership with Sonor, Deakin celebrates, “This is the sound I have been looking for. So warm and resonate. If they were a music source, they would be vinyl (analog) and not a CD (digital). I absolutely love them!”
Paul began his drumming career at the age of six and broke his drumheads right out of the gate. He recalls realizing sports were not his thing and “the only way that he would attract any female attention was to follow in Ringo’s footsteps.” Paul joined his first band at age 15 and quickly learned the difficulty of the music business, but never wavered.
Deakin studied music at the University of Miami and pursued additional education in mallet percussion after college. Following a stint of teaching music in Miami, Deakin, along with lead singer Raul Malo and bassist Robert Reynolds, formed The Mavericks. Over The Mavericks’ distinguished thirty-five-year career they have collected Gold and Platinum record awards and were awarded a Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
Deakin has performed and recorded with David Mead, Matt King and Jason White. The Mavericks are currently signed to their own label Mono Mundo and distributed by Thirty Tigers.
