Dave Bateman took three different heads – the new Evans Calftone 56, the Remo Fiberskyn 3 and a Litik real hide head – put them on the same drum, tuned them to the same tension and recorded the results for a comparison. This isn’t so much a review, more a chance for you to hear and compare the best selling artificial hide copy (Remo), the new kid on the block (Evans) and the real thing (Litik). The drum had a single ply mahogany shell with rounded bearing edges and die cast hoops. All were tuned with a Drum Dial set to 80 for the top head and about 78 for the bottom head. Apart from a small eq reduction at about 500hz, there was nothing done to the sound. |
