Ludwig Atlas Standard Hardware Range

Hardware isn’t the most exciting thing in the world. Apart from being [mostly] shiny, and not much else, you don’t really come across people talking about their stands etc in the same manner as their kits or snares. That said though, hardware is a very important part of the kit, particularly if you’re a gigging player.

We were recently given an Atlas Standard hardware pack to try out. This consisted of a disappearing boom stand, a straight cymbal stand, hihhat stand, snare stand and bass drum pedal. Basically, the essentials of owning a drum kit.

Quick summary points:

The cymbal stands are heavy duty enough to easily hold big cymbals securely and sturdily. They go up quite high and down quite low.

The hihat stand and bass drum pedal are relatively frills-free but work smoothly, possibly the most important characteristic you’d want from them.

The ball joint on the snare stand offers you infinite positional options, which I liked immensely. I actually think I should buy one of these because I hate fiddling around with snare baskets, and this made adjustments easy.

Overall, I found these stands and pedal to be useful and functional. They’re not flashy but they don’t need to be. They are, however, functional, sturdy and something I think I could personally use.

All in all, apart from them being double braced – which is nothing against them, I’m just getting on a bit now and like lighter gear these days – I found the Atlas Standard hardware to be pretty solid and I would have no problems using it as part of my regular gigging setup. And it’s relatively cheap too.
