For the BBC’s Children In Need appeal this year, the BBC’s drumming weatherman, Owain Wyn Evans, has accepted a challenge that is particularly close to our hearts – to drum constantly for 24 hours.
But he’s not going to be doing it alone as musicians from around the UK will be spurring him on. Mark Richardson, drummer from Skunk Anansie and Feeder will be supporting Owain and they will also be joined by Al Murray, Nicko McBrain and Dame Evelyn Glennie, who will all take part along side Owain to help the challenge.
During the challenge the BBC will be looking at the latest scientific research with Professor Marcus Smith (University of Chichester) and colleagues at the ‘Clem Burke Drumming Project’ which we’ve reported on in the past. This project looks at how drumming positively impacts on the brain, body and mood. They’ll also look at how drumming is helping children with autism, special educational needs and disabilities across the UK.
They will also hear from Children in Need projects that use drumming as therapy to help young people right across the UK.
