Lesson – Simon DasGupta – 5 New Bass Drum Patterns

Hello, and welcome to the August video lesson from Drum Ambition!

This month, we return to our 8th note drum beats, with five more options for your bass drum! As always the goal is to play these with a metronome at 55bpm, counting out loud, and then gradually increasing your tempo as you become more comfortable – I recommend going up by 5bpm at a time.

A good goal would be 96bpm, but try and resist the temptation to start at that tempo. It is much harder to play these beats at slower tempos, because it forces you to be more accurate.

If you are a beginner drummer, this is a great next step. If you are more experienced, have a go at the slow tempo (55bpm) and see if you lock with the metronome. If you have ever struggled with a metronome or click-track, this is a good self-coaching opportunity.
