Lesson – Simon DasGupta – Notation

Welcome to my third video on Mike Dolbear.com! If you have watched the first two videos in my beginner series, you will have seen how to play a basic pop/rock drum beat, with multiple bass drum variations. By now you will have noticed the scrolling music notation during the videos, and will have also seen the accompanying sheet music.

My hope is that you will be beginning to see the value in learning to read music notation. So to help you on your way, our featured video explains the note value chart. You will learn about whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes and sixteenth notes, as well as the associated rests that go with them. This is your first taste into the wonderful world of subdivisions!

If you would like to read more on the benefits of reading music, please refer to this article on www.drumambition.com. Thanks for checking in! Feel free to email simon@drumambition.com with any questions!
